Providing first aid to children and infants
This course has been developed for individuals and businesses working with children and infants. These may include teachers, childminders, playgroups, carers, foster carers, and anyone else who has a responsibility for a young persons welfare. This course covers a range of paediatric first aid responses, enabling successful attendees to deal with emergency situations with confidence and a level of competency.

The paediatric first aid course equips learners with the skills needed to diagnose and treat a wide range of paediatric illnesses and injuries. The qualification is delivered, assessed, and quality assured adhering to the Assessment Principles for Regulated First Aid Qualifications.

Understand the role and responsibilities of a paediatric first aider
Assess an emergency situation safely
Provide first aid for an infant and a child who are unresponsive
Provide first aid for an infant and a child who are choking
Provide first aid to an infant and a child with external bleeding
Provide first aid to an infant or a child who is suffering from shock
Provide first aid to an infant or a child with bites, stings and minor injuries

On successful completion, all learners will receive an accredited Ofqual qualification in FAA Level 3 Award in Emergency Paediatric First Aid (RQF) / Level 6 Award in Emergency Paediatric First Aid (SCQF).
*FAA are an awarding organisation regulated by Ofqual and SQA Accreditation, and the qualification sits on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) and the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF).

The qualification is designed for learners with a responsibility for the care of children and babies on a professional level providing the knowledge and practical competence to deal with a range of paediatric first aid situations.

Learners must be aged 16 years or over.
It is recommended that learners hold a minimum of level 1 in literacy or equivalent to undertake this qualification. It may be possible to grant a reasonable adjustment for a learner who has a disability, medical condition or learning need following the FAA Reasonable Adjustment and Special Consideration Policy.
Due to the practical nature of the first aid assessment there are physical demands. Learners must be able to get to the floor unaided and successfully demonstrate all required elements of the practical assessment on their own, with the casualty on the floor, as in a real-life situation.
For example, a learner will need to get to the floor unassisted and demonstrate effective cardiopulmonary resuscitation on a manikin at floor level.

This course is delivered over a period of 1 day, via face-to-face classroom delivery.
Training will be delivered via a variety of resources including face-to-face (in person) training, group activities and practical exercises.

The qualification is assessed through practical demonstration. There is no grading of the assessment, learners pass or are referred. A learner must satisfactorily complete each scenario to pass the practical assessment.

The qualification is valid for 3 years from the date of achievement. It is strongly recommended that the learner attends annual refreshers. To requalify leaners will need to complete the full course again.
