Leading from the front with fire safety

Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 the responsible person must ensure that employees are provided with adequate fire safety training at the time they are first employed, exposed to new or increased risks. Employers must also provide suitable and sufficient instruction and training on the appropriate precautions and actions to be taken by the employee, in order to safeguard themselves and other relevant persons.

Training must be periodically repeated where appropriate, adapted to take account of any new or changed risks, and provided in a manner appropriate to the risk identified through the risk assessment process.

Course details

  • During this course learners will be equipped with knowledge on fire safety, including the hazards and risks of fire in the workplace. They will receive an understanding of how fire risk is controlled and the principles, including types of portable firefighting equipment. As part of this, the course covers Fire Warden duties and responsibilities.

    • Understand basic fire safety, including the hazards and the risks of fire in the workplace

    • Understand how fire risk is controlled in the workplace

    • Understand the principles of fire risk management

    • Understand the principles, types of equipment to support manual handling techniques and lifting equipment

    • Understand the safe parameters for the use of portable firefighting equipment

    • Implement fire safety measures in the workplace and understand the role of the nominated Fire Warden

  • On successful completion, all learners will receive an FAA Level 2 Award in Fire Safety (RQF) / Level 5 Award in Fire Safety (SCQF).

  • This qualification is suitable for a person who has responsibility in the workplace to undertake fire safety requirements and will provide learners with the knowledge to carry out designated duties as a fire warden/marshal.

  • Learners must be aged 14 years or over, and it is recommended that learners hold a minimum of level 1 in literacy (or equivalent) to undertake this qualification.

  • This course is delivered remotely via video conferencing software. Our approved, quality-assured trainers will be available for the full duration of the course. The total qualification time is 7 hours, and includes a period of self-study for those studying remotely.

    Training will be delivered via a variety of resources including webinars, presentations, group activities etc.

  • There is no expiry on the certification. Regular refreshers are strongly advised to remain up to date with policies, procedures and new legislation through ongoing training.

  • Assessment is conducted through a written assessment. There is no grading of the assessment, learners pass or are referred. Via distance learning the qualification is assessed via professional discussion with the trainer through video conferencing software.
